Home Fire Escape Plan
Helping you prepare to keep your family safe.
How to create a home fire escape plan:
The ability to get out of your home during a fire depends greatly on the warning from your smoke detection devices. To prepare your family in the event of a fire you need to make a plan. Here are a few tips to prepare you and your loved ones in case of fire:
- Draw a map of your home showing all doors, windows, and exits. Draw a plan on how to get out of each area of the home.
- Go as a family to each room and find two ways out of each room.
- Test all doors and windows and make sure that they can be easily opened from the inside.
- Make sure you have smoke alarms in different areas of your home. Be sure to test them quarterly.
- Pick a place outside the front of your home that your family will meet in the event of a fire or emergency.
- Make sure your house numbers are visible from the street.
- Be sure to discuss your plan to exit the home and practice your fire drill. Do this at at least twice a year.
